The 2009 European Film Awards were presented last night in Bochum, Germany. German director Michael Haneke won top honours (best film, best director, best screenplay) with The White Ribbon, a drama set in a German village in the months leading up to World War I. Haneke previously won the Golden Palm at Cannes and the FIPRESCI prize at the San Sebastian festival with the film.
