Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford have signed on to star in The Cabin in the Woods, a new film co-written and produced by Joss Whedon. Very few details about the horror flick are known at this point, but Whitford and Jenkins will reportedly play “white-collar co-workers with a mysterious connection to the titular cabin.”
Whedon co-wrote the feature with another familiar face from the Buffy and Angel ‘verse, Drew Goddard, whose credits also include Alias, Lost and Cloverfield. Cabin will be Goddard’s directorial debut.
“It’s really just your basic typecasting: When you need two actors to run through the woods in low-cut nighties, you immediately think of Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford,” Goddard told The Hollywood Reporter.
“They’re the first proof that, though The Cabin in the Woods is a classic horror film, it isn’t one you’ve seen before,” said Joss Whedon.
The Cabin in the Woods is expected to start shooting this spring for a February 5, 2010 release date.
In the meantime, Whedon’s new television series Dollhouse premieres on Friday, February 13 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
